Aim and Background: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of mentalization-based treatment on psychological flexibility and responsibility among single-parent male high school students.
Methods and Materials: This study was an experimental design with a pretest–posttest and control group. The research population consisted of single-parent male students in the second level of high school in Khorramabad during the academic year 2023–2024. From this population, 30 students were selected through random sampling and assigned to experimental and control groups (15 students in each group). The experimental group received mentalization-based treatment in ten 90-minute sessions. Data collection tools included the Psychological Flexibility Scale (Azimi et al. 2020) and the Personal Responsibility Scale (Mergler & Shield, 2016). The data were analyzed using multivariate and univariate covariance analysis through SPSS-26 software.
Findings: The findings showed that mentalization-based treatment had a significant effect on psychological flexibility and responsibility among single-parent male high school students (P < 0.001).
Conclusions: Based on the results, mentalization-based treatment can be considered an important approach for enhancing psychological flexibility and responsibility among single-parent students in school and community settings.
