Abstract:   (28 Views)
Aim and Background: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy on distress tolerance in adolescent boys with Internet addiction.
Methods and Materials: The present research method was quantitative and an experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of this study included adolescents aged 14-18 with cyberspace addiction in Karaj. The sample size in this study was 45 people who were selected through purposive sampling and by completing the Young Internet Addiction Questionnaire and were divided into two experimental groups, dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy were used. The Distress Tolerance Questionnaire of Simmons and Gaher (2005) was used to collect data. The covariance test was then used to analyze the data.
Findings: The results showed a significant improvement in distress tolerance for both treatment approaches. The dialectical behavior therapy group experienced a mean increase of 10.27 in distress tolerance (p<0.001), while the acceptance and commitment therapy group showed a mean increase of 6.47 (p<0.001). Furthermore, dialectical behavior therapy showed a significant improvement in distress tolerance compared to acceptance and commitment therapy with a mean difference of 3.80 (p<0.05).
Conclusions: Both dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy were effective in improving distress tolerance in adolescent boys with Internet addiction, and dialectical behavior therapy was more effective than acceptance and commitment therapy. According to the findings of the study, dialectical behavior therapy may be a more appropriate treatment approach for adolescents who struggle with Internet addiction and low distress tolerance.
