Aim and Background: Bullying in school is one of the maladaptive behaviors of adolescence that has attracted the attention of many researchers in the field of educational psychology in the last decade. In this regard, the present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of an educational package based on family strengthening on reducing bullying and its components in male students.
Methods and Materials: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group and a one-month follow-up. The statistical population included all male students of the first year of secondary schools in Sanandaj city along with their fathers in the academic year 2023-2024. Thirty people were selected from among eligible volunteers based on available sampling and were randomly assigned to the experimental group (15 people) and the control group (15 people). The measurement tool was the Illinois Bullying Questionnaire (2001) with bullying, conflict, and victimization components. The experimental group received family strengthening education during 11 60-minute sessions (two sessions per week); while the control group did not receive any intervention. Statistical data analysis was performed using analysis of variance with repeated measures.
Findings: The results of data analysis showed that after the intervention, the effect of the family strengthening training package on reducing bullying and its components in male students was significant, and these positive effects remained stable during the follow-up period (p<0.001).
Conclusions: The results of the study showed that the educational package based on family strengthening is effective in reducing bullying and its components. Therefore, this finding can be the basis for designing preventive interventions in schools.
