Abstract: (139 Views)
Aim and Background: One of the challenges faced by teenagers is bullying, behavioral problems, lack of communication skills, and lack of empathy. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a mindfulness-based social skills training program on cognitive empathy, friend communication skills, and behavioral problems in students exhibiting bullying behaviors.
Methods and Materials: This study was applied in purpose, semi-experimental in method, and conducted with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all students exhibiting bullying behaviors in the city of Tabriz who were enrolled in the second middle school level in the academic year 1403. A sample of 30 students with bullying behaviors was selected, initially screened, and then randomly assigned to experimental (15 participants) and control groups (15 participants). Data were collected using the revised behavioral problems scale, the cognitive empathy scale, and the questionnaire on problems in communication with friends. The collected data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) in SPSS version 27.
Findings: The intervention of mindfulness-based social skills training significantly increased cognitive empathy and reduced problems in communication with friends, behavioral problems, and components of conduct disorder, social aggression, attention problems - immaturity, and anxiety - withdrawal. However, no significant effect was observed in the subscales of psychotic behavior and hyperactivity (P<0.01).
Conclusions: According to the findings of the present study, a mindfulness-based social skills training program can be used to reduce behavioral problems, improve communication skills with friends, and increase cognitive empathy in adolescents with bullying.
