Aim and Background: Cancer is known as one of the most debilitating diseases in the world, and its psychological effects are of great importance for the patient and family. In this study, the effectiveness of emotional schema therapy on hope and disease perception in women with breast cancer was investigated.
Methods and Materials: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a control group and pre-test, post-test, and follow-up stages. The statistical population of the study consisted of all women with breast cancer in Isfahan. 36 people were selected from Seyed al-Shohada Hospital using a convenience sampling method. The Snyder Hope Questionnaire and the Short Illness Perception Questionnaire were used to examine the treatment results. The Emotion Schema Therapy sessions were conducted based on Leahy’s protocol in eight 90-minute sessions. The research tools were the Hope Questionnaire and the Short Form of Illness Perception Questionnaire. Repeated measures analysis of variance using SPSS-23 software was used to analyze the data.
Findings:  The follow-up stages (p<0.05). Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy was also effective on hope in the post-test and follow-up stages (p<0.05).results showed that emotional schema therapy had a significant effect on attitudes toward death in the post-test and
Conclusions: The results indicated the effectiveness of emotional schema therapy on hope and illness perception. emotional schema therapy has been able to make the patient's perception of the illness more consistent with the reality of the illness by reducing the patient's stress and tension and improving emotional cognition, and as a result, it has an effect on his perception of the illness and hope.
