Aim and Background: The aim of the present study was to examine the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Persian version of the quantitative assessment of depressive mixed state (DMX-12).
Methods and Materials: The present study is an applied research in terms of its objective, a survey study in terms of data collection method, and a psychometric study in terms of methodology, conducted within a correlational research design. The statistical population included all Iranian nationals aged 18 to 40 during the first six months of the year 1403 (2024). The final sample size of the study, broken down by total analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis, was 342 participants (264 women and 78 men), 138 participants, and 204 participants, respectively, selected using the convenience sampling method. The construct validity of the questionnaire was assessed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, its reliability was evaluated through Cronbach's alpha and test-retest reliability, and its convergent validity was examined by analyzing its Pearson correlation with the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology-Self Report (QIDS-SR). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 and Amos version 24.
Findings: The results of the exploratory factor analysis indicated that the questionnaire items formed three factors: tension and distractibility, reactivity and instability, and impulsivity and aggression, which together explained 37/08% of the total variance. The confirmatory factor analysis also supported the factor structure obtained from the exploratory factor analysis. The findings showed that Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the overall questionnaire, the tension and distractibility factor, the reactivity and instability factor, and the impulsivity and aggression factor were 0/84, 0/78, 0/72, and 0/74, respectively, indicating satisfactory internal consistency. Correlational analyses further confirmed the convergent validity of the questionnaire.
Conclusions: The reported results indicate that the Persian version of the quantitative assessment of mixed depression questionnaire possesses favorable psychometric properties. Therefore, it can be used as a reliable tool for assessing depressive disorder with mixed features in various research and clinical fields
