This study aimed to follow-up the course, severity, and quality of life in patients with schizophrenia. Methods and Materials: This study was 6 months follow-up on 20 patients with schizophrenia who were admitted to Noor Hospital, Isfahan, Iran. Each patient was evaluated on admission day, discharge, three and six months after discharge. The severity of symptoms and life quality were measured by Positive and Negative Symptoms Scale and quality of life questionnaire. Findings: Mean scores of severity on the admission day was significantly more than discharge and three and six months after discharge (P = 0.001). There was no significant difference between discharge and three and six months after discharge regarding severity of symptoms. Mean scores of quality of life were significantly greater at the time of discharge than three and six months after that (P = 0.03). There were no significant differences observed between discharge time and six month after it, and also between the third and sixth months after discharge. There is an urgent need to identify and apply diagnostic tools that can assess the child’s emotions from their perspective. Drawing a story is able to respond to these needs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate reliability, validity and standardization of drawing a story (DAS) among the children in elementary school of Shiraz, Iran. Methods and Materials: 500 primary school students from Shiraz were selected through multistage stratified random sampling. Subjects performed DAS and child behavior checklist (CBCL) was filled out by their parents. Data was analyzed using Spearman correlation coefficient, Kappa’s agreement coefficient, Cronbach's alpha and one way ANOVA. Findings: Cronbach's alpha was 0.82 for emotional scale, and reliability was 0.69, 0.64 and 0.58 for emotional content, self-image and using humor, respectively. Convergent validity was calculated by determining the correlation coefficient with child behavior checklist (CBCL). It was used in the comparison of the validity of the differential scores of children in three groups (depressed, aggressive and normal). Conclusions: Results of this study showed that drawing a story has psychometric properties for utilizing in psychological research and clinical diagnosis. }, Keywords = {&,nbsp, Drawing a story, Standardization, Reliability, Validity, Emotional content, Self-image, Using humor}, volume = {10}, Number = {5}, pages = {325-331}, publisher = {Isfahan University of Medical Sciences}, url = {http://rbs.mui.ac.ir/article-1-264-en.html}, eprint = {http://rbs.mui.ac.ir/article-1-264-en.pdf}, journal = {Journal of Research in Behavioural Sciences}, issn = {1735-2029}, eissn = {2008-8248}, year = {2013} } @article{ author = {براتدستجردی, نگین and صیادی, سمیه}, title = {Relationship between using social networks and internet addiction and depression among students}, abstract ={Aim and Background: Worldwide internet is known as one of the most outstanding information and communication technology and represents the technological advancement of modern humans. At first, all the studying fields were categorized into three groups of humanities, engineering and science. Then with random sampling, 345 students were selected. The data gathering tool included Beck’s Depression Inventory, Young’s Internet Addiction and researcher made questionnaires. Findings: There was a significant relationship between using social network and internet addiction (r = 0.147, P = 0.010). There was no significant relationship between using social network and depression (r = 0.55, P = 0.332). There was also a significant relationship between using social network and internet addiction regarding gender, age and education field variables. This difference was not significant among female and male age groups. Etiology of sleep disorders in adolescents is very complex. This study aimed to determine the correlationbetween internet addiction and adolescents sleep disorder. Method and Materials:This study was conducted with a survey and cross-sectional design. Data were collectedfrom 535 adolescents (218 males and 317 females) in 2011 among those studying at high-schools ofYazd, Iran. These adolescents were selected using proportional stratified sampling method. Data collection toolsincludedinternet addiction test (IAT) and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using independent t statistics and hierarchical multiple regression tests. Findings:21.7% of the adolescents were addicted to internet and 57.2% of the adolescents had an adverse sleep quality. Addicted internet users had more adverse sleep quality (77.6%) rather than those normal internet users (51.6%). There was a significant difference between normal and pathological internet users, in terms ofoverallsleep quality (P < 0.01), subjective sleep quality (P < 0.01), sleep latency (P < 0.01), and daytime dysfunction (P < 0.01). Hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis showed that internet addiction explained 4.7% of the variance of the quality of sleeping. Conclusions:Internet addiction is a powerful risk factor for adolescent's sleep quality and can increase the risk of sleep disorder among adolescents. Death of a beloved one is among the worst events a child might ever experience throughout his or her life. Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) has increasingly been used to ameliorate the emotional consequence of death in children and adolescences. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive CBT on the bereaved high-school students who have lost one of the members of their families. Method and Materials: This was a quasi-experimental study in which 20 bereaved students (girls = 10, boy = 10), who have lost one member of their family, were randomly selected from the bereaved students in Eghleed district in Fars province. They were then divided into two groups i.e. the experimental (n = 10) and the control groups (n = 10). The experimental group received 8 sessions of CBT, the control group received no intervention. California Test of Personality (CTP) was administered on both groups before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed with Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests using SPSS software. Findings: The analysis of the data indicated a statistically significant difference between the experiment and control groups in total score of adjustment inventory (P < 0.02). The analysis of data in sub-scales indicated a statistically significant difference in score of individual adjustment (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference in total score of social adjustment (P < 0.1).
