Author Guidelines
 
Journal of Research in Behavioral Science (JRBS) is the official scientific Quarterly publication of Behavioral Sciences Research Center of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences with the scientific cooperation of Iranian Psychiatric Association. This journal accepts Original Articles, Review Articles, Short Communications, Case Reports, and Letters to the Editor on related fields including psychiatry, psychology, psycho-nursing, behavioral science and religion. The translation articles will not be published in any case.
  • Manuscripts Submission: The manuscripts can be submitted via journals΄ web site http://rbs.mui.ac.ir. Authors should send a request for publishing their manuscript to editor (Covering letter) and the request should be signed by all the authors.
  • The manuscripts should be in Farsi, typed on A4 with 1 cm space between lines by MS Word 2007 with font B zar-14 for Farsi and font Times New Roman-12 for English text. The manuscripts should 4000-4500 words. An English abstract (250 words) is necessary for all manuscripts.
  • Original articles should include Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Methods and materials, Results, Discussion and conclusion, Acknowledgement, and References.
  • Review articles, which study a new scientific subject by referring to a significant number of published papers on the topic, will be accepted just from authors who have enough background and experience in the field. It should include Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Review, Discussion and conclusion, and references.
  • Case reports should be about rare cases in psychiatry or the rare complications of psychiatric medicine. Case report manuscripts should include Title page, Abstract, Introduction, Case report, Discussion and conclusion, and References.
  • The title page: including title of the article, complete name of author(s), author(s) affiliation, institute, date and place of the research, complete mail address, phone number and email of the corresponding author.
  • The abstract: Farsi abstract should be between 250-300 and English abstract be between 150-250 words, including Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusion and 3-5 Keywords. Keywords will assist indexers in cross indexing the article as they are published with abstract. Use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of index medicus. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html
  • Introduction: This should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should neither review the subject extensively nor should it have data or conclusions of the study.
  • Materials & Methods: This should include exact method or observation or experiment. If an apparatus is used, its manufacturer’s name and address should be given in parenthesis. If the method is established, give reference but if the method is new, give enough information so that another author is able to perform it. If a drug is used, its generic name, dose and route of administration must be given. For patients, age, sex with mean age ± standard deviation must be given. Statistical method must be mentioned and specify any general computer program used.
  • Results: It must be presented in the form of text, tables and illustrations. The contents of the tables should not be all repeated in the text. Instead, a reference to the table number may be given. Long articles may need sub-headings within some sections (especially the Results and Discussion parts) to clarify their contents.
  • Discussion and conclusion: This should emphasize the present findings and the variations or similarities with other work done in the field by other workers. The detailed data should not be repeated in the discussion again. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis mentioned in the article is true, false or no conclusions can be derived.
  • Acknowledgement: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgement section. It should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance and departmental head who only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.
  • Tables: In limited numbers should be submitted in black and white and in good quality, each one printed in a separated page with the number referred to them in the text. Do not submit tables as photograph. Place explanatory matters in footnotes, not in the heading.
  • Figures: Should be in limited numbers, with high quality art work and mounted on separate pages. The captions should be placed below. The same data should not be presented in tables, figures and text, simultaneously.
  • References: Should be written based on the principles of biomedical papers and should follow the regulations approved by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors in Vancouver Canada. All Farsi references should be translated to English and the phrase [Persian] should be written at the end of the reference. The
Reference should provide the following information as stated in the presented models as follows:
Books
P Up to 6 authors: Author's surname initials. Book title. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher; Year of publication. p. Number of pages. (, is used between authors' names)
P More than 6 authors: After the sixth author add, et al. The rest is the same as above.
Journal articles
P Up to 6 authors: Author's surname initials. Title of the article. Journal title year; Volume number(Issue number): Number of pages. (, is used between authors names).
P More than 6 authors: After the sixth author add, et al. The rest is the same as above.
P Corporate author or publisher: If the work is by a recognized organization and has no personal author, its name will be used as the author and the rest will be the same as above.
Thesis or dissertations
P Author's surname initials. Title [Thesis]. Place of publication: The school name and the university; year.
Electronic resources
P CD-Rom and DVD
Author's surname initials or producer. Title of the article. The abbreviation of the journal title [Serial on CD-Rom] year of publication; Volume number(Issue number): pages.
P Books on a CD-Rom
Author's surname initials or producer. Title. [Book on CD-Rom]. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher; Year of publication. p. Number of pages.
P Journal article on the Internet
Author's surname Initials. Title of article. Abbreviated Title of Journal [serial online]. Year of publication Month day [cited Year Month Day]; Volume Number(Issue number): Number of pages or screens. Available from URL: Internet address. Viewed month day, year.
P Web site
Author's surname initials or producer. Title of the page. Year of publication if available; [number of pages or screens]. Available from URL: Internet address. Viewed month day, year.
P Abbreviations and symbols: Use only standard abbreviations. Avoid using them in the title and abstract. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement.
P Considering that conducting a research is a team-work, the name of the authors should be carefully mentioned based on their contributions. The first author is responsible to assure other authors' rights.
P Ethical guidelines: The ethical principles in the conduct and reporting of research, including the secrecy of patients' names and private information should be assured according to the declaration of Helsinki.
P Conflicts of interest: Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.
P Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peer reviewed via a double-blinded process by at least 3 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editorial Board. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of the editor decision to accept, reject, or require modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions, it is scheduled for the next available issue.
- Articles should be written in accordance to the academic writings and the referencing principles of the journal. Using foreign terms when there is an appropriate term in Farsi should be avoided. The journal retains the copyright of manuscripts and is free to edit the papers and decide to publish or not to publish them. The manuscripts will not be returned.
- The responsibility of the content is on the authors.
- The paper acceptance is constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism.
P Proof Reading: A computer prints out is sent to the corresponding author for proof reading before publication in order to avoid any mistakes. Corrections should be marked clearly and sent immediately to the Journal office.
P Copyright: Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under an Attribution- Noncommercial 4.0 International that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
- Journal has entire right for accept or reject any of received manuscripts.
- The editors, editorial board, sponsoring organization, and publisher do not accept responsibility for the statements expressed by authors in their contributions.
