Abstract

Aim and Background: Cancer is considered to be one of the most important health and therapy issues in the world and in our country, especially among men, and is usually associated with significant clinical and psychological discomfort in the optimal use of coping strategies. The aim of this study was thus to analyze the structural model of spiritual health based on health anxiety, positive meta-emotion, pain self-efficacy mediated by the source of internal health control in men with cancer.
Methods and Materials: The research method is descriptive-correlational type of structural equation modeling. The statistical population consisted of men aged 45 to 65 years old with gastrointestinal cancers living in Golestan province in 1400. The sample size was estimated to be 230 people using Krejcie Morgan table. The convenience sampling method was used. The instruments of this research were in the form of questionnaires including health anxiety by Salkowski and Warwick (2002), metacognition and meta-emotion by Biro Montea (2010), pain self-efficacy by Nicholas (1980), spiritual health by Delman and Free (2004), source of health control by Wallston et al. 1978). To analyze the data, structural equation modeling technique was used in the LISREL8.71 software.
Findings: The results showed that health anxiety had a significant negative effect, and positive meta-emotion and self-efficacy had a significant positive effect on spiritual health (P <0.001). The source of internal health control mediated the effect of pain self-efficacy on spiritual health in a significant positive way (P <0.01). The source of internal health control has a negative effect on health anxiety and a significant positive effect on positive meta-emotion and pain self-efficacy (P <0.005).
Conclusions: The results of the present study support the hypothesis that health anxiety, positive meta-emotion, and pain self-efficacy are related to spiritual health and can affect spiritual health through the mediation of health control source.

Abstract

Aim and Background: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between coping strategies and health anxiety during the covid-19 pandemic, taking into account the mediating role of health-promoting behaviors.
Methods and Materials: This research was a descriptive, correlational, and path analysis type study. The statistical population consisted of adults aged 18 years and above, of which 207 people were selected as a sample using the convenience sampling method. The data in this research was collected using Salkovskis and Warwick's (2002) health anxiety questionnaire, Walker et al.'s (1995) health-promoting behavior questionnaire, and Lazarus and Folkman's (1985) coping strategies checklist. For data analysis, SPSS-26 and LISREL 8.80 software were used.
Findings: relationship between problem-oriented and emotion-oriented coping strategies with health-promoting behaviors (P < 0.001) and a negative and significant relationship between health-promoting behaviors and health anxiety (P < 0.05). In addition, there was a negative relationship between problem-oriented coping strategies and health anxiety, and a positive relationship between emotion-oriented coping strategies and health anxiety; But it was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The results of the path analysis model showed that the initial research model was not meaningful and after removing the non-significant paths and modifying them, the final model was confirmed with the mediating role of health-promoting behaviors.
Conclusions: The results of this research showed that coping strategies play a role in health anxiety and predict it by influencing health-promoting behaviors.

Abstract

Aim and Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is one of the central nervous system disorders that poses numerous challenges regarding the psychological adjustment of affected individuals worldwide. Psychological interventions can be utilized to address these challenges. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) based on the Rutgering approach (delivered in a hybrid format of in-person and online sessions) on health anxiety, death anxiety, and body image in MS patients in Tehran.
Methods and Materials: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest and follow-up structure for both the intervention and control groups. Using convenience sampling, 30 MS patients registered with a rehabilitation charity in Tehran who scored above the mean on health anxiety, death anxiety, and body image questionnaires were selected. These participants were randomly assigned to two groups of 15. The intervention group received CBT sessions based on the Rutgering et al. (2022) approach in a hybrid in-person and online format.
Findings: The results of repeated measures ANOVA indicated that implementing the hybrid CBT protocol significantly improved health anxiety and body image and reduced death anxiety in MS patients (P = 0.01).
Conclusions: The findings suggest that CBT based on the Rutgering approach is effective in addressing psychological characteristics such as health anxiety, body image, and death anxiety in MS patients. Therefore, it can be considered a complementary treatment alongside other therapeutic methods for MS patients
