This study was designed to examine the role of visual cues and the rotation of the experimental system on the spatial orientation in Albinos rats. Material and Methods: A simple water maze was used to examine the spatial orientation. Twenty five rats aged 2-3 months were distributed into three groups: 8 rates in the first group with distant visual cues, 8 rats in the second group with near visual cues and 9 rats without any visual cues. Experimental investigations were carried out at animal laboratory of Khorasgan Islamic Azad University. Data was analyzed using ANOVA and t independent tests by SPSS 12 soft ware. Results: Experimental group with distant visual cues used both types of information, namely: exocentric information based on visual cues and egocentric information based on vestibular sense. But in the two other groups, localization and orientation were based on only one of the two mentioned types of information. Conclusion: Regardless of the distances, the visual cues are very important for spatial orientation abilities in rats. The study also showed that these animals use different strategies for orientation; but if the visual cues are available, they always dominate other kinds of sensory information.

Abstract

Aim and Background: This study examined the effectiveness of Toukaa software (a Persian application of learning difficulties) on audio detection and memory in children with learning difficulties (dyslexia). Methods and Materials: This was a quasi-experimental study with pre- and post-test design and control group. In this study, using Toukaa software, the experimental group were trained in 10 sessions. The population consisted of all the students in the first grade of school with age of 7 to 8 years in Isfahan city, Iran. These students were referred by some experts in psychology. The participants were equally divided into two groups of experimental (n = 10) and control (n = 10). Research tools included children Wechsler Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and reading achievement test. For data analysis purposes, the progress of two groups of control and experimental were examined via comparing the scores of the two groups using ANOVA test with repeated measures, Mauchly test and consistency of variances. Findings: Toukaa auditory memory training software improved the recognition and auditory memory among the children with learning difficulties (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Considering the effect of Toukaa software on improving audio detection and memory in children with learning difficulties (dyslexia), and as these children suffer memory disorders, we suggest to use this software 15-20 minutes per day to improve their memory capacities.

Abstract

Aim and Background: The number of previous studies on the subject of specific treatments for chronic depression disorders was limited and significantly incomplete. Identification of applied indicators in treatment approaches of chronic depression disorders extracted from previous work would result in the development of applied and plenary treatment of these disorders. Methods and Materials: In this narrative review, referring to the databases like Pubmed and ScienceDirect, and a review of 71 articles, the treatment approaches and the most important applied indicators related to the treatment of chronic depressive disorder were extracted. Findings: There are differences between acute and chronic depression of existing signs, and the aforementioned treatments often focus on major depression. The effective methods in the treatment of chronic depression include psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), cognitive-behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy, schema therapy, behavioral activation therapy, group therapy and family-based treatment. However, in any of these ways, there are major weaknesses. According to the literature, some common elements in treatment of chronic depressive disorders are time-limited psychotherapy, explicit rationale for treatment, the active therapist position, focus on current problems, emphasis on changing current behavior and interpersonal interactions, self-monitoring of change and progress, regular homework assignments, continuation/maintenance therapy to extend gains, combined pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment, family-based interventions. Conclusions: In comparison with research conducted in major depressive disorder, research support in psychotherapy for chronic depression is relatively young and further research is essential.
