Abstract Aim and Background: As the adolescents lack necessary social and communicational skills and their inadequate awareness concerning rejection of high risk suggestions imposes them to repairable consequences, the present study aimed to define education of saying no skills to reject high risk suggestions through use of role playing model and a role play. Methods and Materials: This is a field clinical trial. The study population comprised 63 female middle school students selected through systematic random sampling in Arak, Iran in 2011. Data were collected by a questionnaire including questions on personal and familial characteristics and the checklist of saying "no" to reject high risk suggestions. Firstly, the questionnaire and the checklist was completed and then, the education was conducted based on skill of saying No through role play training method. Immediately after and two months after education, the checklists of saying no skill were completed through researcher's observation of the students. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistical tests through SPSS. Findings: The mean scores of skill of saying no to reject high risk suggestions showed a significant difference among the subjects before, immediately after and two months after intervention (respectively p=0.000, p=0.009). Conclusions: With regard to obtained results, the necessity to conduct educational interventions concerning preventive behaviors among the students to provide them with physical, emotional and social health is highly notable. As health role playing model has a preventive ability against high risk behaviors, it is suggested to conduct the present study with higher number of sessions and a more constant education |
