Methods and Materials: The present study was conducted in the form of a experimental design with pre-test and post-test along with a control group. The statistical population of the present study consisted of adolescents with cyberchondria in Isfahan. They were selected from 45 boys aged 14 to 18 years old using purposive sampling method and were then randomly sampling method assigned to the mindfulness-based stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy experimental groups and the control group. They completed the Beck Depression Inventory, second version (BDI-II) in two pre-test and post-test stages. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance in SPSS version 27 software.
Findings: The results of data analysis indicated that mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy significantly reduced depressive symptoms (P<0.05). On the other hand, cognitive behavioral therapy was also significantly effective in reducing depressive symptoms (P<0.05). However, no significant difference was observed between mindfulness-based stress reduction intervention and cognitive behavioral therapy in reducing depression.
Conclusions: These findings support the effectiveness of both interventions in reducing depression in adolescents with cyberchondria, and therapists can use these interventions to reduce depression in adolescents with cyberchondria.
