Aim and Background: Today, the use of smartphones has significantly increased among student girls. Experts believe that excessive use of smartphones can lead to body image disorder, eating disorders, and a decrease in physical activity among student girls. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between smartphone addiction, body image disorder, eating disorders, and physical activity in student girls.
Methods and Materials: The design of the current research was analytical and of the type of correlation models. The statistical population of this research was made up of all the student girls at Imam Khomeini International University in Qazvin, years in 1403, and 200 of them were selected by voluntary sampling. The participants responded to the Cell Phone Addiction Scale, the Body Image Questionnaire, the Nutrition Attitude Questionnaire and the Physical Activity Scale. Data analysis using multiple linear regression method, Pearson correlation coefficient at a significant level. 0.05 was done in SPSS software version 26.
Findings: The findings of the present study showed that tolerance of deprivation (P < 0.001), life disturbance (P < 0.001) and insistence (P < 0.001), predicted body image disorder in student girls; On the other hand, tolerance of deprivation (P < 0.05), life disorder (P < 0.001) and insistence (P < 0.04), disorder predicted eating in student girls; Furthermore, tolerance of deprivation (p < 0.001), life disruption (p < 0.001), and insistence (p < 0.001) predicted physical activity in student girls. Also, 62% of the variance of body image disorder, 44% of the variance of eating disorder and 57% of the variance in physical activity were explained based on the components of smartphone addiction (deprivation tolerance, life disorder, compulsion-insistence).
Conclusions: The results of the present study determined that smartphone addiction and its components including (tolerance of deprivation, life disorder, compulsion-insistence) are predictors of body image disorder, eating disorder and physical activity in student girls
