Aim and Background: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between coping strategies and health anxiety during the covid-19 pandemic, taking into account the mediating role of health-promoting behaviors.
Methods and Materials: This research was a descriptive, correlational, and path analysis type study. The statistical population consisted of adults aged 18 years and above, of which 207 people were selected as a sample using the convenience sampling method. The data in this research was collected using Salkovskis and Warwick's (2002) health anxiety questionnaire, Walker et al.'s (1995) health-promoting behavior questionnaire, and Lazarus and Folkman's (1985) coping strategies checklist. For data analysis, SPSS-26 and LISREL 8.80 software were used.
Findings: relationship between problem-oriented and emotion-oriented coping strategies with health-promoting behaviors (P < 0.001) and a negative and significant relationship between health-promoting behaviors and health anxiety (P < 0.05). In addition, there was a negative relationship between problem-oriented coping strategies and health anxiety, and a positive relationship between emotion-oriented coping strategies and health anxiety; But it was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The results of the path analysis model showed that the initial research model was not meaningful and after removing the non-significant paths and modifying them, the final model was confirmed with the mediating role of health-promoting behaviors.
Conclusions: The results of this research showed that coping strategies play a role in health anxiety and predict it by influencing health-promoting behaviors.
